The new season of the “Battle of the Cities,” an international project of the Russian Judo Federation and the Cradle of the Fatherland charitable foundation, which is being implemented with the support of the Fonbet company, made a stop in Moscow. On the tatami of the International Sambo Center, the strongest squads of the Central Federal District were identified, which will continue the fight in the next stage.

In the capital, the strongest were determined by 16 teams of young men under the age of 18, which included medalists of the World and European Championships, as well as continental Cups and key starts of the national calendar. Spectators were able to see spectacular judo performed by representatives of Moscow, Moscow, Lipetsk, Kursk, Belgorod, Tver, Voronezh, Tula, Kaluga, Ryazan, Oryol, Bryansk and Vladimir regions.

“Thanks to the support of our partners, we were able to hold excellent competitions,” said Elena Timofeeva, executive director of the Moscow Judo Federation. – Support for youth sports is extremely important. This opens the way to the top for talented guys. Well, athletes who at some point decide to take a path not related to judo undergo a real school of life at the “Battle of the Cities”: they strengthen their character, learn to support their comrades and cope with difficulties. We are grateful to FDR and the Cradle of the Fatherland for such competitions. We are waiting for everyone in the capital at the All-Russian and international finals.”

In group “A”, the “Olympus” team (Moscow region) won the palm without any problems. It was the students of the Shchelkovo judo school, but older ones, who became the winners of the first season of the “Battle of the Cities”. Now their younger teammates are rushing at full speed towards the trophy. In second place are the Lipetsk athletes from “Steel Character” - last season they also fought for medals in Sirius, but stopped at the playoff stage.

The Muscovites from “FDM” literally did not notice their counterparts in quartet “B”: the capital’s youths completed two match meetings ahead of schedule with a score of 8:0, and also inflicted a crushing defeat on their peers from Kursk – 13:3. The second place in the next stage was won by judoists from Tver-Judo.

Another Lipetsk team, Flexible Path, won the right to continue fighting for the cup in Group C. In a tense and equal fight in the decisive match, the resistance of the Pobeda team from Moscow was broken: it was in a head-to-head confrontation that it was decided who would lead this quartet.

This is not the first time that the Academy of Winners has won under the arches of the International Sambo Center: the leaders of Group D won the Battle of Moscow test tournament here a year ago. Now, within their group, they dealt with fairly strong opponents without any problems, giving them only 4 points. The second place was taken by judoists from the Vladimir region - “SSHOR im. Rybin."

“Battle of the Cities” continues its journey across Russia. From May 12 to 15, competitions of the 1st qualifying stage will be held in Vyritsa among judoists of the Northwestern Federal District, from May 16 to 19 - among representatives of the Ural Federal District in Chelyabinsk, and from May 24 to 27 - among young men from the Volga Federal District in Saratov.

The grand international final of the second season of the “Battle of the Cities” will be hosted by Moscow in December: 32 teams – 16 Russian and 16 foreign, invited by the organizers, will compete for parts of a substantial prize fund. But a month earlier, in November, the capital will host the all-Russian final tournament, where fans will be able to see only the best teams of the second qualifying stage.
