The draw for the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities”, an all-Russian project of the Russian Judo Federation (FDR) and the charity program “Cradle of the Fatherland” with the support of the general sponsor “Fonbet”, will take place on June 23. It will determine the composition of eight tournaments in which teams from all federal districts of Russia will compete to reach the decisive stage of the competition.

Let us remind you that the first stage of the “Battle of the Cities” took place in April-May of this year. Teams of judokas under the age of 18 from 73 regions of the country took part in it. Based on the results of eight tournaments, eight squads were identified in each federal district, which received the right to continue fighting in the second stage.

Now, eight so-called legions will be formed from 64 teams - one per federal district. Each legion will include four “home” teams that won leading positions in the groups in the first stage tournaments. The teams that took second place in the quartets at each tournament will be distributed by drawing lots for competitions in other federal districts. Competitions in legions are held according to a mixed system by forming two groups.

The second stage will begin with the Peter Bagration legion tournament in Krasnoyarsk, which will take place on September 4-6. The strongest teams from the Siberian Federal District have already reserved their place in it following the results of the first stage of the “Battle of the Cities” - namely from Krasnoyarsk, Chernogorsk, Barnaul and Irkutsk. Four other squads that received tickets to the second stage in this federal district - from Angarsk, Achinsk, Novosibirsk and Omsk - are awaiting the results of the draw, which will distribute them among other legions.

The next tournament of the second stage will take place on September 11–13 in Rostov-on-Don. The Dmitry Donskoy Legion included the four strongest teams based on the results of the first stage of selection in the Southern Federal District - from Krasnodar, Ust-Labinsk, Maykop and Rostov-on-Don. Teams from Volgograd, Volzhsky, Kerch and Simferopol will have to go on the road.

Then the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities” will continue in Stavropol on September 18-20. The Legion "Alexander Suvorov" is formed by the four best teams of the North Caucasus Federal District - from Nalchik, Cherkessk, Stavropol and Grozny, as well as four teams of guests, which will be determined by drawing lots. It will also distribute four other Caucasian teams to other legions - from Makhachkala, Nazran, Akhmat-Yurt and Vladikavkaz.

The second stage of the project will reach the equator in Chelyabinsk on September 25-27. The Fedor Ushakov legion included a quartet of the strongest teams in the Ural Federal District - from Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Nyagan. Judoists from Tobolsk, Magnitogorsk, Trekhgorny and Severo-Uralsk will go on the road.

Next, the competitions of the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities” will continue in Saratov, where from October 2 to 4 the best in the “Georgy Zhukov” legion will be determined. The four strongest teams of the Volga Federal District based on the results of the initial stage of the cycle will perform there - from Perm, Kazan, Orenburg and Saratov. Teams from Orsk, Izhevsk, Ufa and Nizhny Novgorod are awaiting the results of the draw.

From October 16 to 18, fights in the Pavel Nakhimov legion will take place in Khabarovsk. Teams from the Far Eastern Federal District from Ulan-Ude, Chita, Gusinoozersk and Vladivostok won tickets to this tournament based on the results of the first stage. Judoists from Ussuriysk, Blagoveshchensk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Selenginsk will take part in the draw and go to tournaments in other federal districts.

The penultimate tournament of the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities” will be held in Vyborg on October 22-24. The Alexander Nevsky Legion will consist of three teams from the Northern capital (St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Petrograd), as well as athletes from Guryevsk. Four more squads that will come to visit the judoists of the Northwestern Federal District will be determined by drawing lots. And teams from Pskov, Gatchina, Kaliningrad and Cherepovets will compete in other tournaments.

Finally, the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities” will end on October 26-28 in the Russian capital. The Mikhail Kutuzov legion included the best teams of the Central Federal District from Moscow, Fryazin, Lipetsk and Khimki. Teams from Troitsk, Yelets, Tver and Kovrov are awaiting the results of the draw.

“The first stage of the Battle of the Cities went just great. 128 teams took part in eight tournaments, more than two thousand athletes held more than three thousand competitive meetings. The idea of a bright, colorful event is being fully realized,” said Kirill Denisov, sports director of the Russian Judo Federation. - And now out of 128 teams there are 64 left, about a thousand athletes will compete for the right to advance to the final stage. It is very pleasant that our partner, the Fonbet company, organized an excellent television broadcast using four or five cameras so that judo fans and parents of young athletes could enjoy a truly beautiful picture from these competitions.”

“I think that with no less enthusiasm our athletes are waiting for the next starts, the next events, and are preparing for this. And I expect that this fall the “Battle of the Cities” tournaments will be no less bright,” Denisov emphasized.

Thus, judoists from 44 regions of Russia will perform in the second stage of the “Battle of the Cities”. Their fights will determine the participants in the main competitions of the project.
