The team judo tournament “Battle for Moscow” has started in Moscow.
The tournament, featuring judokas from the country’s leading sports schools, will conclude on 30 September. The prize fund of the competition amounts to a record 42 million roubles.
The competitions are taking place on the tatami of the International Sambo Centre from 28 to 30 September. The tournament is dedicated to the victory of the Soviet troops in the Battle for Moscow. With the support of the charitable programme DobroFON, the total prize fund has reached a record 42 million roubles.
The key feature lies in the unique format of the competition: the confrontation will continue until two team victories are achieved. This format allows each athlete to have at least two bouts in one match.
“Together with the charitable programme DobroFON and the leadership of the Moscow Judo Federation, we decided to honour the feat of our ancestors by holding a large-scale competition dedicated to this event. Our task is not only to raise strong judokas but also to ensure that the boys remember the price paid for our happy lives,” said President of the Russian Judo Federation Sergey Soloveychik.
Representatives of the country’s leading sports schools will compete for medals. The strongest team will be determined on 30 September — the day when the battle for the Soviet capital began during the Great Patriotic War.
The tournament can be watched live on fon.tv. The medal bouts will also be broadcast on the Match! Boets TV channel.
