The draw for the All-Russian Grand Final of "Battle of Cities"—an international project of the Russian Judo Federation and the "Cradle of the Fatherland" charity program, supported by general sponsor Fonbet—took place on Thursday, October 1, in Moscow.
Teams of U18 judoka from all federal districts of Russia participate in "Battle of Cities." The project is currently in its second stage—tournaments across the so-called "legions," which determine the participants for both the All-Russian Grand Final and the International Superfinal.
The winners of each of the eight legions earn the right to compete in the All-Russian Grand Final of "Battle of Cities." So far, competitions in four legions have concluded—"Pyotr Bagration," "Dmitry Donskoy," "Alexander Suvorov," and "Fyodor Ushakov"—with the teams from Nazran, Krasnodar, Nalchik, and Chelyabinsk emerging victorious. Four more legion tournaments are yet to take place: in Saratov ("Georgy Zhukov" Legion), Khabarovsk ("Pavel Nakhimov" Legion), Vyborg ("Alexander Nevsky" Legion), and Moscow ("Mikhail Kutuzov" Legion).
Following the draw, the group stage composition for the All-Russian Grand Final was determined. Group A will feature the future winners of the Kutuzov, Nevsky, and Zhukov legions, along with the team from Nazran. In Group B, the teams from Chelyabinsk, Krasnodar, and Nalchik will be joined by the winner of the Nakhimov legion.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, where they will face off in a cross-over format to determine the contenders for the main trophy. The total prize fund for the All-Russian Grand Final will amount to 42 million rubles.
The All-Russian Grand Final of "Battle of Cities" will take place in Moscow from November 8 to 10. Subsequently, from December 3 to 17, the Russian capital will host the International Superfinal of the project. It will feature the 16 top teams based on the legion tournaments, 8 teams that win the international playoff stages, and 8 foreign teams receiving special invitations from the organizers.
